The foundation of the Ereğli Museum was laid in 1967 in order to evaluate and exhibit the rich archaeological finds and ethnographic artifacts of Ereğli and its surroundings. Its construction was completed and opened to visitors in 1978. The museum has two large exhibition halls, antiquities warehouses and marble rooms. The showcases of the archaeological artifacts hall exhibit the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Hittite, Phrygian, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine works, as well as mammoth skeletal fragments unearthed from the rich sand quarries.
