
Derived from the verb sarmak (to wrap), saraçlık (harness making) is the art of making items and horse suits from meşin (lamb, sheep, goat leather) or saffian and adorning them with thread or silk embroidery. The one who makes it is also called a harness maker. Harness making aims to facilitate natural movements by making the harnesses suitable for the size of the animal, and to protect it against all kinds of external influences, crushes, and bumps.
