Alaeddin Kayqubad, one of the rulers of the Anatolian Seljuks, gifted Sultanü'l-Ulema Bahaeddin Veled, the father of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, the huge land that now serves as the Mevlana Museum with its garden. The edifice, which had formerly served as a dervish convent, was converted into a museum under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's decree.

Its emerald dome, known as Kubbe-i Hadra (Green Dome), was erected on four piers, giving the covent a more majestic view. The dome, embellished with numerous motifs, ornaments, and kufic poems, has survived as one of the museum's most outstanding architectural highlights.
