Approximately 38% of the provincial territory of Konya consists of plains. Plains covering a wide area throughout the province emerged as a result of drying up of the old Konya Lake and taking its present form. Alluviums stored on the lake floor have prepared a suitable ground for agriculture in these lands. Apart from the Konya Plain, which is the largest of these plains, there are Ereğli, Hotamış, Karapınar, Cihanbeyli, Altınekin, Kulu, Ilgın, Seydişehir and Beyşehir plains.
