The 17th General Conference of UNESCO, convened in 1972, adopted the "Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" and carry an important idea into effect. Turkey signed the convention in 1983. 1121 heritage sites have been determined for the World Heritage List, which was created according to the convention and prepared by the World Heritage Committee. Turkey has 18 heritage sites, 16 of which are cultural and 2 of which are mixed. Konya, on the other hand, entered the list with the Çatalhöyük Neolithic Site.
